When a Christian community is founded around one charismatic narcissist, who repeatedly commits offences and skillfully manipulates people, disastrous things often happen as a result.
The Finnish organization Out of Africa was founded in 2002 to support Michael Howard’s evangelistic and humanitarian activities in Africa. Several witnesses are now telling about the resulting sexual, physical, psychological and spiritual abuse and mismanagement of funds. The case of Howard and OOA is an extreme example of a guru, who exerts spiritual violence served up with all the trimmings.
The reckless use of money was indicated already in the Finnish Public Broadcasting Service program ”MOT” titled “Collecting Money in the name of the Lord”. In the program Howard told that he does not receive any salary whatsoever. “Sometimes people give me 50 euros. God will multiply the 50 euros you give me…” The tax-free “widow’s mites” from the followers are not Howard’s main source of income.
Finland is financing a sex scandal school
The students of Kalibu Academy, a private school supported by OOA come from wealthy families. The school fees are paid directly in cash.
Howard’s sister Rozella Heyns, who used to cover up his crimes in the past, tells at the website founded for Howard’s victims about his brother gladly welcoming the money coming from the school. According to Howard, the school does not receive poor children because “A poor village person – – I really know what I’m talking about, they’re not gonna rise up to the leadership position.”
The news website Malawi24 tells about the school scandal in its articles (for example, “Bingu Knew About Kalibu Academy Sex Scandals”). Authorities have been paid off – they have known about the sexual abuse of students. The students have also suffered strong physical and psychological violence – many of them have lost their faith in God.
Howard has had several sexual relationships with his staff members and pastors. Besides the homosexual Howard, the elite school headmaster Paisley Mavutula has also abused students and employees.
A conspiracy to fool the disciples
Howard has made up many of the colorful events of his life story, tells his sister. His teaching is wild, too. In the OOA newsletter (www.ooa.fi 09/2015) Howard declares that already several years ago the Lord gave him a clear revelation of “the greatest conspiracy ever”, “the structure and operation of the New World Order / One World Government.” Consequently, the disciples of the sectarian leaders have access to the sources of secret knowledge and are on the cutting edge influencing world history. After all, what does it matter to give away one’s possessions compared to saving the world? Howard, who has lived in Finland, persuades his followers to sell everything and follow him to Africa.
Some of Howard’s supporters still believe his explanations about the critics lying and attacking against “The Lord’s anointed”. Some have had their eyes opened.

Enabling gross abuse and violence to continue is not a very Christian way of doing things.
Like other sectarian leaders, Michael Howard thinks that he is more or less the only repository of the truth. He sees the established churches and all those who disagree or criticize as “tools of satan”.
“The victim mentality is so prevalent in the West and especially in the church. So, I am ‘a hater,’ ‘a bully,’ ‘an oppressor,’ ‘a victimizer’ and goodness knows what else,” states Michael Howard in his December 2015 newsletter. The picture is showing Howard introducing his work on a YouTube video.

Kun kristillinen yhteisö perustetaan yhden karismaattisen, rötöksiin toistuvasti syyllistyvän ja taitavasti ihmisiä manipuloivan narsistin ympärille, on lopputulos usein katastrofaalinen.
Suomalainen Out of Africa –yh distys perustettiin vuonna 2002 tukemaan Michael Howardin evankelioimis- ja avustustyötä Afrikassa. Lukuisat todistajat kertovat nyt, että seurauksena on seksuaalista, fyysistä, henkistä ja hengellistä väkivaltaa sekä taloudellisia väärinkäytöksiä.

Villistä rahankäytöstä antoi viitteitä jo Ylen MOT-ohjelma Rahankeräystä Herran nimeen (10.3.2014). Howard kertoi, ettei hän saa ensinkään palkkaa.
“Joskus ihmiset antavat minulle 50 euroa. Jumala moninkertaistaa minulle antamasi 50 euroa…” Kannattajien verottomat “lesken rovot” eivät ole maailmaa kiertävän Howardin pääansio.
Suomi rahoittaa seksiskandaalikoulua
OOA-järjestön Malawiin perustamassa, ulkoministeriön rahoittamassa yksityiskoulussa Kalibu Academyssa käy varakkaiden perheiden jälkikasvua. Koulumaksut maksetaan puhtaana käteen. Howardin rötöksiä takavuosina peitellyt sisko Rozella Heyns kertoo Howardin uhrien nettisivustolla, että koulun raha kelpaa veljelle (http://www.michaelthomashoward.org).
Howard perustelee, ettei kouluun oteta köyhiä lapsia, koska “vankan kokemuksen perusteella voin sanoa, etteivät he kohoa johtavaan asemaan.”
Malawi24 kertoo koulun skandaalista artikkeleissaan (mm. Bingu knew about Kalibu Academy sex scandals). Viranomaisia on lahjottu – he ovat tienneet siitä, että oppilaita on hyväksikäytetty seksuaalisesti. Oppilaisiin on kohdistettu myös rankkaa fyysistä ja henkistä väkivaltaa – moni heistä on menettänyt uskonsa Jumalaan.
Howardilla on ollut lukuisia seksuaalisuhteita myös alaistensa ja pastoreidensa kanssa. Homoseksuaalin Howardin lisäksi eliittikoulun rehtori Paisley Mavutula on hyväksikäyttänyt oppilaita ja työntekijöitä.
Salaliitto opetuslasten sumuttamiseksi
Howard on sepittänyt money elämäntarinansa värikkäät käänteet, sisko kertoo. Hänen opetuksensakin on hurjaa. Howard julistaa OOA:n uutiskirjeessään (www.ooa.fi, 09/2015), että jo monta vuotta sitten Herra antoi hänelle selvän ilmoituksen “kaikkein aikojen suurimmasta salaliitosta, uuden maailmanjärjestyksen ja yhden maailmanhallituksen rekenteesta ja toiminnasta.”
Lahkojohtajien opetuslapset ovat siis salatun tiedon alkulähteillä ja ajan hermolla vaikuttamassa maailmanhistoriaan. Mitä on omaisuutensa antaminen sen rinnalla, jos voi pelastaa mailman? Suomessa asunut Howard houkuttelee seuraajiaan myymään kaiken ja seuraamaan itseään Afrikkaan.
Osa kannattajista uskoo yhä Howardin selityksiä siitä, että arvostelijat valehtelevat ja hyökkäävat “Herran voideltua” vastaan. Joidenkin silmät ovat avautuneet.
Joukko Out of Africa –yhdistyksen entisiä suomalaisjohtajia ja vastuunkantajia kehottaa tammikuussa 2016 (http://dunamisk.wix.com/howard) että kaikki Howardin toiminnassa mukana olevat irrottautuisivat siitä välittömästi.
Rajujen väärinkäytösten ja väkivallan jatkumisen mahdollistaminen ei ole kovin kristillistä toimintaa.
Lahkojohtajien tapaan myös Michael Howard pitää itseään suunnilleen ainoana oikeana totuudentorvena. Vakiintuneet kirkkokunnat ja kaikki eri mieltä olevat tai kriittiset ihmiset ovat hänestä “saatanan työkaluja.”
